Ageing population in developed countries is a serious issue and according to an article I read EU's pensioner population in 2050 will be 100 million. Today in 2010 German seniors have more income and savings at their disposal than younger generations. The article also says that the greys will "make a continuing contribution to economic growth" through health advancements and innovations.
So I am asking myself how come so few seem to have turned this problem into an opportunity targeting this increasingly important customer segment online?
To start with I have to look at how seniors today use the internet? As a matter of fact Facebook's demographics are changing. Older users make the young ones retreat to their very own social networks such as MoshiMonsters and others. Creating a dialogue between this growing user segment and digital content works similar to approaches for younger users, only contents differ. Searches on GoogleInsight for health, money and social networking are on the rise. This may be caused by an increasingly web-savvy older generation. I wouldn't be surprised to see the numbers increasing over the years.
